My Bao Buns is one of the most popular of current trending meals in the world. It’s simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. It is appreciated by millions daily. My Bao Buns is something which I’ve loved my whole life. They are nice and they look wonderful.

To make the perfect bao buns, you need both yeast and baking powder to help the buns to rise. Start by measuring all of the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Then measure the warm water and oil into a measuring jug. The water needs to be a bit more than lukewarm to help activate the yeast, but it shouldn't be boiling hot.

The ingredients needed to make My Bao Buns:
  1. Prepare 1 cup (250 ml) Self-Raising Flour
  2. Make ready 1/2 cup Bread Flour
  3. Make ready 1 pinch Salt
  4. Take 1 teaspoon Dry Yeast
  5. Prepare 1/2 cup Warm Water
  6. Take 1 tablespoon Sugar *add extra 1 tablespoon if you want sweeter
  7. Make ready 1 teaspoon Rice Vinegar
  8. Prepare 1 tablespoon Oil of your choice *plus extra to brush

If you bake Bread regularly, these Bao Buns are quite easy to make for you. Bao is steamed buns and it can be many different shapes and it can be by itself or filled with sweet/savory filling. I shared mantou, my original steamed bun recipe a long ago. It's very similar but this recipe is upgrade version of the old one.

Instructions to make My Bao Buns:
  1. Place Warm Water, Dry Yeast and Sugar in a bowl, mix gently and set aside.
  2. Place Self Raising Flour, Bread Flour and Salt in a large bowl, and mix to combine. Make a well in the centre and pour in the yeast mixture, Oil and Rice Vinegar. Mix well to form a soft dough. Allow to rest for 1 hour.
  3. Divide the dough into 8 portions. Roll each portion into 5mm thin oblong. Brush Oil over the top side, and fold in half. *Note: You may wish to brush Sesame Oil for extra flavour.
  4. Place each bun on a piece of baking paper (size 10 x 10cm). Allow to rest for 30 to 60 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Pour water into a steamer and bring to the boil over high heat. Place buns into steamer, cover with lid and cook for 10 minutes. Repeat with remaining buns.
  6. Serve while they’re still warm with your favourite fillings. Today I filled with stir-fried Prawns, Tomato and Egg with Lettuce. Any flavours will go well with these buns.

I shared mantou, my original steamed bun recipe a long ago. It's very similar but this recipe is upgrade version of the old one. Chinese Steamed Buns Recipe (Mantou 馒头) Traditional bao buns are filled with seasoned pork belly, but of course, I opt for a plant-based alternative. I make a sweet & savory hoisin tempeh using my favorite tempeh cooking method: steam, marinate, and bake. Marinated, baked tofu would be a delicious option in here as well.
